Hello Millie, I LOVE your blog and have taken a lot of your tips on board. Have you also thought about all the chemicals that are in lots of cleaning products? Things like vinegar and baking soda can be very good alternatives to some of the nasties in things you find in the shops.
Clare
p.s. Great hairdo too!

Millie – great ideas. My idea is that instead of creating more plastic bag overload, use supermarket bags for picking up your doggy doo not specifically made dog poo bags! That’s what my Mum suggests anyway!
Love Jack aged 7 years 8 months.

Dear Jack
What do you do with the doggy doo when it comes home? If you don’t know, then this is what you should do. You can put it in the compost patch and did you know that hairs off your hair brush can also go in the compost.
When the compost is finished you can grow plants in it. Wait until the dog poo has changed into soil!
Best wishes from Millie

Hi Millie,
Your blog is great!
We have a dog and the issue of what do with her poo is always troubling! You are right: dog poo can be put on the compost patch, but the patch has to be turned regularly so the poo breaks down – otherwise it can sit there a long time and make the garden smelly (and your neighbours’ gardens as well).
We don’t have a compost patch, but we use biodegradable dog poo bags which completely break down in a month. They are not much more expensive than normal dog poo bags and you can buy them at places like Pets at Home.
My next plan is to track my dog to sit on the loo, like a person. It might take a while…
Best wishes,
Jacq

Well done Millie – very good site.
What about mobile phones – we should all keep them longer and when we buy a new one, donate them to a local school or charity who can get some money from them.
Also, good to see some supermarkets are providing recycling boxes for batteries, because we get through far too many of those in our household.
And our guinea pigs are very good at eating any left over fruit and veg and the bits we don’t eat like the leaves of the cauliflower.

Dear Emma, Sarah and family
I like the idea of giving wasted food to hamsters. Every home should have one.
It’s very good that supermarkets have realised that they should help to recycle stuff, like boxes and bags.
Lots of good wishes, Millie JP

Hi Millie
This is a great blog with lots of really useful ideas on how to save energy and combat climate change. We all need to do what we can to help. I love a cup of tea but I make sure I only boil enough water in the kettle to use what I need – saves water, energy and time.
Across Watford recycling has increased as the government has encouraged more local councils to provide better recycling. I like your idea of the wind up car though few of us would feel fit enough to wind it up, especially going up a hill! But we certainly need to encourage less use of the car. That’s why I have always been a keen supporter of the plans to build the Croxley Rail Link. I want to see more people being able to park their cars on the outskirts of town and get a train, tube or bus in to do their shopping. It would mean fewer cars on the ring road and less pollution.
Good luck with your blog and helping to get the message across to the young and the old.
regards
Claire Ward MP

Dear Claire
Thank you for your idea and comment. I live in Watford and I know you are the MP of Watford.
It would be a very good idea to get rid of some of the cars on the ring road, because I live right next to it and every day I get caught in it.
On my road there is a school on the corner and it must be horrible for the girls and boys who go to it, because every day cars go past and when they are playing in the playground they must be breathing lots of dirty air. Which is bad.
Best wishes, Millie JP.

Millie – I love your website and by posting new ideas every month you will keep people really interested in taking care of the environment.
I like recycling lots and my idea is to recycle tea bags. If we dry them out after we have used them, we can use the old tea to compost our gardens (the flowers love old tea) and if we were really creative and careful we could use the paper to paint bright designs on and make a collage, maybe for a home for the elderly or sick children. What do you think?
I hope lots of other children look at your website and learn about ways to help the environment and come up with lots of ideas for you.

Dear Janet
I will use that idea on my blog and thank you for sending me it.
Best wishes, Millie
